Modern Viola on a Personal Model.
Constructed by David T. Van Zandt

The photos on this page are of a viola for modern performance practice constructed on a personal model in 2000.   This instrument was constructed on the same pattern and mold as a viola made for classical period performance I made in 1999.  It is interesting to note the effect that changes of edge and corner treatment and the inset of the purfling have on the overall appearance of the two instruments.

Dimensions:
body length - 398mm
upper bout width - 189mm
c bout width - 134mm
lower bout width - 244.2mm

total vibrating string length - 369mm
